ASTRAKA DRAKOLIMNI AVGERINOS

The third Tymphi Hiking organized by Land Beyond was the most demanding one. It took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 12th and 13th of August 2014. Twenty nine people took part. On Tuesday morning the team enjoyed a relaxing rafting experience in Voidomatis and lunch at “Astra” in Papigko.

At 18.30 we started climbing and after two and a half hours we reached the Astraka refuge where we spent the night. Around 8.30 in the next morning we started again and reached Drakolimni an hour and a half later. Some of us had a swim in the lake in the presence of the small alpine tritons, called drakakia in greek. After that we returned to Laka Tsoumani and followed the path via Rompozi, Arvanitis sheepfold, Mega Lakkos and headed to Avgerinos, “Vikos from above” view. We even had a view of Tsepelovo village – a distant one though. The signs were clear and helpful. This path is used and followed by runners of the Zagori Mountain Run.

The weather was fine, we even witnessed signs of bears and wolves. Late in the afternoon mission was accomplished and we wre transferred by a little bus from Vradeto back to Vitsa. We managed to walk 17 km in the mountain, which added to the 5,5km from the previous day equals 22,5 km of content and satisfaction!
