The first Tymphi hiking of the land beyond took place on Tuesday the 12th of August 2012. Eight-year-old Damianos, Mando, Kimon, Romanos, Tasos and Nikos went off at 06.00am from the small Papigko village and at 08.30 reached Astraka refuge having stopped three times for a little while in the locations of mountain shepards of Ipirus, where hot drinks were offered to them. Starting again on 10.00am, reached Drakolimni at 11.00am. The fine weather allowed us to walk on the dry lake, to take our pictures underneath the Astraka peak (2.450m height), to splash in the lake together with its many tritons and to meet the wild horses of Papigko! Drakolimni, the dream escape!

It may sound like an achievement, and it definitely was one, so easy and safe. We promise to repeat it next year when we shall also spend the night in the cosy refuge. Our special hiking theme was "And still there is life up there" handled by Tasos with the use of geology and biology. The organization credits go to the land beyond. After this experience Tasos climbed back and got married three days later!
